Built by the Matson Navigation Company, the Royal Hawaiian Hotel opened in 1927.
Known as the Pink Palace of the Pacific, this Waikiki hotel blends Moorish-Spanish architecture and coral-pink stucco, and recalls an era of Surfing lessons given by beach boys, Mai Tais, and 7 day passages on the Matsonia or her sisters.
It was a slower time -- before the jetliner became the unofficial Hawaii state bird.
